UN Libya Mission welcomes new security arrangements in Tripoli

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has welcomed the new security arrangements in the capital Tripoli, following its adoption by the country’s Presidential Council (PC).

“UNSMIL welcomes the progress made by the Greater Tripoli Security Arrangements Committee, created by PC Decree 1303 & supported by UN,” UNSMIL tweeted on Saturday.

According to the Mission, the finalized security arrangements’ plan, submitted by PC Chairman and Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA) Fayez Al-Sarraj, stipulates the withdrawal of armed groups from sovereign institutions and to be replaced by legitimate state-approved forces.
