AlSarraj and Salame discuss ways to resume political process in Libya

Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya's Government of National Accord (GNA) Fayez alSarraj met here on Saturday with Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Ghassan Salame.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the efforts of the UN mission to end the ongoing clashes in the suburbs of the capital Tripoli and to resume the political process, according to a statement issued by the information office of the GNA Presidential Council's information.

They also touched on the current consultations in preparation for the UN Security Council's session on the situation in Libya to be held on Monday. AlSarraj stressed during the meeting that the Libyan crisis can only be solved by halting the ongoing fighting in Tripoli suburbs and the resumption of the political process.

For his part, Salame reiterated that there is no military solution to the Libyan crisis and that there is no alternative to a political solution. He also renewed the UN's condemnation of all attacks targeting civilians and civil installations, which constitute a violation of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
