Karachi: Sindh Abadgar's Sugar Mills Limited reported a dramatic financial downturn for the nine-month period ending June 30, 2026, as detailed in their unaudited condensed interim financial statements released on July 31, 2026. The company, operating within the consumer staples sector, encountered a substantial loss after tax amounting to Rs. 164.55 million, a sharp contrast to the Rs. 119.13 million profit recorded during the same period in the previous year.
Sales figures for the period stood at Rs. 2.64 billion, representing a 35% decrease from the Rs. 4.08 billion registered in the corresponding period of the previous year. This decline was primarily due to a 34% reduction in sales volume, which fell from 31,816 metric tons to 21,061 metric tons. Additionally, the average selling price decreased by 2.37%, contributing further to the financial strain.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the financial burden was exacerbated by an increase in financial costs, which rose to Rs. 228 million from Rs. 215 million in the prior year. Consequently, this contributed to the company's loss per share, which plummeted to Rs. 15.78 from a profit of Rs. 11.43 per share in the comparable period last year.
The company's equity and liabilities also reflected the financial stress. The issued, subscribed, and paid-up capital remained at Rs. 104.25 million, while accumulated profits fell to Rs. 92.25 million from Rs. 194.01 million. Subordinated loans decreased to Rs. 430 million from Rs. 480 million, further indicating financial tightening.
Current liabilities saw a significant increase, with trade and other payables rising to Rs. 1.52 billion from Rs. 1.19 billion. Short-term borrowing surged dramatically to Rs. 3.98 billion from Rs. 923.42 million, indicating a reliance on external financing to maintain operations.
Despite the challenges, the company's total assets increased to Rs. 9.97 billion from Rs. 6.66 billion. However, this growth was not sufficient to offset the financial losses incurred during the period.
As Sindh Abadgar's Sugar Mills navigates these turbulent financial waters, market observers and stakeholders will be closely monitoring their strategies and actions aimed at reversing the current trend and stabilizing the company's financial standing in the forthcoming quarters.
