Karachi: Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) has officially launched a major project to develop data centers across Pakistan, announcing plans to invest Rs. 10 billion into the burgeoning field of digital infrastructure. This move marks a significant expansion into cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and other advanced technologies.
Today, MPCL celebrated the commencement of its first data center in Karachi, signaling the start of a strategic shift towards technology-oriented services. The project aims to set up multiple data center sites nationwide to serve both public and private sector needs.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), MPCL has allocated an equity investment of Rs. 10 billion for this initiative. The company outlined its vision in two key documents, letters No. MPCL-CA-24-4015 and MPCL-CA-24-4117, dated August 8, 2024, and September 24, 2024, respectively. These documents detail the formation of a new subsidiary dedicated to data center operations, cloud solutions, and AI technologies.
The establishment of scalable data centers as part of this initiative is set to bolster Pakistan's capacity in handling large-scale data processing and storage solutions. By integrating AI and cloud computing into its service offerings, MPCL is positioning itself at the forefront of technological innovation in the region.
Stakeholders and TRE certificate holders of the PSX have been informed of these developments, which promise to enhance the technological landscape of Pakistan significantly.
