KARACHI: Nazir Cotton Mills Limited, a prominent manufacturer and exporter of cotton yarn, has faced several significant challenges in its operations, including legal and leadership hurdles, as detailed in a recent update to the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
On October 2, 2024, the company reported to the Assistant Manager of Listed Companies Compliance at the Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited that despite ongoing issues, there are positive developments in its subsidiary operations. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the communication outlined multiple key updates.
Firstly, the Honorable High Court had previously directed a lower civil court to enforce the restoration of the electricity connection of the Sheikhupura site through WAPDA. This action is critical as the lack of electricity has halted the company's ability to commence commercial production. The case remains pending, with future proceedings expected to impact the company's operational resumption significantly.
Additionally, the company’s Goat Farm venture, initiated in June 2023, has reported an increase in sales, marking a successful expansion in its agricultural subsidiary amidst the company's broader challenges.
The letter also disclosed a major shakeup in the company's management, triggered by the death of the chief executive. This has led to substantial changes in the Board of Directors and management structure, aiming to revitalize the company's leadership. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for October 2024 is anticipated to further address these changes, with new directors having already been elected to the board.
Nazir Cotton Mills expressed optimism that the new management would make better decisions for the future, aiming to stabilize and grow the company amidst its current trials.
