Sitara Energy Limited’s Financial Year 2024 Reflects Strategic Realignment Amidst Challenges

Faisalabad: Sitara Energy Limited's strategic redirection has culminated in a financial year characterized by substantial restructuring, marked by significant capital gains from asset sales, despite a downturn in sales revenue. The comprehensive details released in their annual financial report reveal a year of significant transitions and fiscal strategies aimed at stabilizing the company's financial footing.

In the financial year ending June 30, 2024, Sitara Energy recorded a decrease in sales revenue to Rs. 916.06 million from Rs. 1,067.69 million in the previous year, attributed to a reduced demand from bulk power consumers. This decrease was a direct result of the elevated costs of residual fuel oil (RFO), which led to higher electricity tariffs that were not viable for bulk consumers. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company’s restructuring efforts were notably successful in mitigating these challenges.

Noteworthy within these strategic measures was the disposal of investment properties, generating a capital gain of Rs. 180.70 million. This disposal was primarily aimed at repaying restructured credit facilities, reflecting a proactive approach to liability management. Additionally, the restructuring included a waiver of Rs. 105.50 million from financial institutions, indicative of effective negotiations that bolstered the company's financial health.

These maneuvers translated into a net profit of Rs. 41.99 million for the year, a significant recovery from the net loss of Rs. 103.28 million reported in the previous year. This turnaround is highlighted by an earnings per share increase to Rs. 2.20, up from a loss per share of Rs. 5.41 in 2023.

In the backdrop of financial maneuvers, the State Bank of Pakistan's (SBP) policy rate adjustments also played a critical role. The rate was maintained at 22% until June 9, 2024, before being reduced to 20.50%, providing a somewhat relieving fiscal environment for corporate borrowing and investment activities.

The company's forward-looking statements suggest a continued strategic focus on cost management and operational efficiency. Plans to integrate solar power into its energy generation capabilities signify a shift towards more sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions, which are expected to provide competitive tariffs to bulk power consumers in the future.
