Islamabad: Pak Datacom Limited has released its unaudited financial report for the quarter ending September 30, 2024, revealing the impact of significant economic challenges on its operations. The company faced exorbitant inflation and intense pressure on the Pakistani Rupee, particularly affecting the data communication sector due to heavy reliance on imported telecom equipment and the volatility in rupee-dollar parity.
During this period, the company's revenue was recorded at Rs. 287.16 million, a decline from Rs. 375.59 million in the same period of the previous year. Despite the drop in revenue, Pak Datacom managed a notable increase in other income, which rose by 47 percent to Rs. 21.66 million, up from Rs. 14.67 million. The net profit for the quarter was Rs. 38.46 million, translating to earnings per share (EPS) of Rs. 3.24.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the financial year 2023-24 posed unique challenges due to regulatory restrictions on the issuance of Letters of Credit by commercial banks. These restrictions, coupled with the shutdown of international telecom business activities in Pakistan, heavily impacted revenue streams.
Despite these setbacks, the company sees promising growth potential in the telecom industry, fueled by a rising demand for high-speed data services and the rapid pace of digitalization. This growth is seen as an opportunity to capitalize on the demographic trends and digital transformation across sectors such as banking, healthcare, and retail, which require robust and reliable telecom infrastructure.
To navigate these challenges, Pak Datacom has put forth a proactive five-year strategic master plan that includes significant investments in network expansion and technological upgrades. Key initiatives include advancing digitalization, promoting a paperless environment, and embracing automation, which are poised to significantly enhance operations in the Information Communication Technology (ICT) sector.
The board of Pak Datacom expressed gratitude towards its shareholders, customers, government agencies, financial institutions, employees, and all stakeholders, whose support has been crucial in navigating the difficult economic landscape and achieving the results reported.
