PRCL Reports Strong Financial Growth Despite Industry Challenges

Karachi: Pakistan Reinsurance Company Limited (PRCL) has announced significant gains in its financial results for the nine months ending September 30, 2024, despite facing a reduction in gross written premiums. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company's proactive management strategies and robust re-takaful operations have enabled it to overcome sectoral headwinds and deliver substantial profit growth.

The company's gross written premium for the conventional business segment saw a decrease to Rs. 21.28 billion from Rs. 24.35 billion in the same period last year, marking a 12.6% reduction. However, the net premium income showed positive dynamics, climbing by 15.2% to Rs. 8.06 billion, supported by efficient cost management and a decrease in net commission expenses.

In contrast, PRCL's re-takaful business segments recorded notable performance improvements. The participants' re-takaful fund grew significantly, with gross written contributions increasing by 32.2% to Rs. 1.62 billion. This growth was complemented by a 30% rise in net contributions after a decrease in wakala expenses. Additionally, the operators' re-takaful fund saw a 30.5% increase in wakala income, contributing to a robust 173% surge in after-tax profit for this segment.

Total income from investments, rentals, and other sources also saw a remarkable increase, contributing Rs. 2.97 billion, a 36% increase over the prior period. The company's overall profit before tax rose dramatically to Rs. 4.74 billion, up 49% from last year, with after-tax profits escalating to Rs. 2.64 billion, marking a 30% year-over-year increase.

This financial uplift is happening amid a broader economic context where the State Bank of Pakistan has reduced the policy rate to 17.5%, with further reductions anticipated due to easing inflation. This financial environment, combined with a new IMF funding agreement worth USD 7 billion, positions PRCL to potentially enhance its market performance further.

PRCL attributes its success to stringent operational controls and a dedicated workforce, as highlighted in its gratitude towards employees and stakeholders for their enduring support and commitment.
