Karachi: The Board of Directors of MCB Investment Management Limited, the management company overseeing the MCB Pakistan Opportunity Fund, has announced the financial results for the half year ending December 31, 2024. The results were approved in a meeting held at the company's head office in Karachi on February 4, 2025. According to the unaudited financial statements, the fund demonstrated a robust financial performance during the period under review.
The total assets of the MCB Pakistan Opportunity Fund surged to 806.24 million, a substantial increase from 289.46 million as of June 30, 2024. This growth was predominantly driven by a sizable rise in investments, which escalated from 236.23 million to 697.29 million. Additionally, the number of units in issue nearly doubled, reaching 3,452,003 compared to 1,657,136 previously. Consequently, the net asset value per unit increased from 173.1845 to 231.9295.
For the half year ending December 31, 2024, the fund reported a total income of 166.20 million, up from 89.20 million in the same period of the previous year. The increase in income was mainly attributed to gains on the sale of investments, which amounted to 20.07 million, and an unrealized gain on revaluation of investments at fair value through profit or loss, totaling 103.83 million. Despite an uptick in expenses, the fund's net income before taxation rose significantly to 152.64 million from 84.80 million in the prior period.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the fund's operating activities yielded a net cash outflow of 364.49 million during the half year ended December 31, 2024. Despite this outflow, financing activities resulted in a net cash generation of 360.99 million, primarily due to the issuance of units worth 1.12 billion. The cash and cash equivalents at the end of the period stood at 41.31 million, slightly down from 44.81 million at the beginning of the period.
The Board of Directors decided not to disclose earnings per unit (EPU) due to the impracticability of calculating the weighted average number of units. The company assured stakeholders that the requisite printed accounts would be distributed among exchange members.
The financial performance of MCB Pakistan Opportunity Fund reflects its strategic investment decisions and the overall favorable market conditions during the period. The fund continues to maintain its position in the designated market category of mutual funds, providing investors with promising growth opportunities.
