Karachi: TPL Properties Limited has announced the discovery of a shallow biogenic methane gas pocket during a preliminary site investigation near Korangi Creek, according to a disclosure made on April 3, 2025. The discovery was made while drilling a test well for water exploration, and it has been determined that the gas is likely a result of the decomposition of organic material.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the area where the gas was found is not part of a known natural gas reservoir. Industry experts have indicated that this type of gas pocket is expected to dissipate naturally over time if the flame is allowed to burn. The company has assured stakeholders that they have taken all necessary measures since the occurrence on March 28, 2025, to manage the situation and have kept the public informed through press releases.
The test was part of a comprehensive series of studies conducted over the past two years, reflecting TPL Properties Limited’s commitment to responsible development. These studies, conducted in partnership with national and international consultancy firms, included geotechnical studies, soil composition and contamination tests, Electrical Resistivity (ER) surveys, and a comprehensive Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA).
All investigations, including the recent hydrological study, were performed with the appropriate approvals from relevant authorities and in compliance with regulatory standards. TPL Properties Limited has reiterated its dedication to maintaining high standards of transparency, safety, health, and sustainability in its projects.
The company has notified the Trading Right Entitlement Certificate Holders of PSX, as per the requirements outlined in Section 96 of the Securities Act, 2015, and Clause 5.6.1 (a) of PSX Regulations.
