Kot Addu Power Company Reports Decline in Profit and Revenue Amid Rising Costs

Kot Addu: Kot Addu Power Company Limited has reported a notable decrease in profit and revenue for the financial year ending June 30, 2025, according to the latest financial statements released by the company. The decline is attributed mainly to increased operational costs and lower income from various sources as compared to the previous year.

For the year ending June 30, 2025, the company's revenue from contracts with customers was recorded at 1.56 billion rupees. However, the cost of sales exceeded the revenue, standing at 2.00 billion rupees, resulting in a gross loss of 438.16 million rupees.

The company's financial health further deteriorated due to plant maintenance and preservation costs, which were reported at 2.27 billion rupees. This figure, though a reduction from the previous year's 4.16 billion rupees, still significantly impacted the company's financial performance. Administrative expenses were slightly lower at 656.47 million rupees compared to 710.32 million rupees in the previous year.

In terms of profitability, the company reported an operating profit of 3.24 billion rupees, a decrease from the 9.32 billion rupees recorded in 2024. This reduction in operating profit is reflected in the profit before levy and income tax, which declined to 2.99 billion rupees from 5.54 billion rupees a year earlier.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the profit before income tax for the year stood at 2.97 billion rupees, down from 3.36 billion rupees in 2024. After accounting for a significant income tax expense of 436.93 million rupees, the company reported a profit for the year of 2.54 billion rupees, compared to 4.31 billion rupees in the previous year. This represents a very large or significant move of -41.2% in net profit.

The company's earnings per share (EPS) also saw a decline, with the basic and diluted EPS recorded at 2.88 rupees, down from 4.90 rupees in the previous year.

On the balance sheet, the company's total equity and liabilities were noted at 65.25 billion rupees for the year ended June 30, 2025. This includes a decrease in revenue reserves, with un-appropriated profit standing at 47.85 billion rupees, down from 52.71 billion rupees in 2024.

Cash flow from operating activities was positive but reduced significantly to 2.61 billion rupees from 6.28 billion rupees the previous year. Meanwhile, the company generated 13.32 billion rupees from investing activities, showcasing a strong inflow compared to the 15.05 billion rupees in 2024. Financing activities, however, saw a cash outflow of 7.40 billion rupees.

The financial statements reflect a challenging year for Kot Addu Power Company Limited, as it navigates through increased operational expenses and decreased income streams, impacting its profitability and overall financial position.
