AGP Limited Clarifies Misleading Reports Regarding Azomax® Product

Karachi: AGP Limited, a prominent player in the pharmaceutical industry, has issued a clarification concerning recent misleading reports related to its product Azomax® (Azithromycin). The disclosure, dated July 17, 2026, was made in response to widespread circulation of incorrect news and social media content following the issuance of Prompt Alert No. 97/2026 on July 8, 2026, by the Directorate of Drugs Control, Government of the Punjab.

Recent reports inaccurately suggested that AGP Limited's genuine Azomax product had been declared substandard or unsafe. The company has emphasized that these reports have created a misleading impression, which could confuse investors and other stakeholders about its products and compliance with regulatory standards. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), AGP Limited has taken steps to ensure transparency and fair disclosure regarding this matter.

The Government Alert pertains to a counterfeit product bearing the Azomax® name, specifically Batch No. H5332, which was recovered during routine market surveillance from an unauthorized individual. Importantly, the Government Alert expressly records that the counterfeit product was "purported to be manufactured by M/s AGP Limited" but "does not belong to the genuine manufacturer." AGP Limited has clarified that the alert relates exclusively to a counterfeit product and not to the genuine Azomax® product.

Upon receiving the recovered samples, AGP Limited promptly initiated authentication procedures. This involved a comprehensive examination of various security features, including packaging, printing characteristics, serialization details, and manufacturing specifications. The company confirmed that the product in question was not manufactured by AGP Limited and submitted its findings to regulatory authorities, requesting legal and regulatory action against those responsible for the counterfeit product.

The incident has not impacted AGP Limited's manufacturing operations, regulatory approvals, product quality systems, or commercial operations. Azomax, which has annual sales exceeding PKR 5 billion, continues to perform strongly, maintaining the trust and confidence of healthcare professionals and patients.

AGP Limited remains committed to safeguarding patient safety, product quality, and regulatory compliance. The company has implemented anti-counterfeit technologies on Azomax® packaging to protect its integrity and support authorities in combating counterfeit medicines. AGP Limited also reserves its legal rights against entities responsible for counterfeit products or disseminating misleading information.

This disclosure aims to ensure that shareholders, healthcare professionals, chemists, and patients receive accurate information and are not misled by false interpretations of the Government Alert. The company has urged the TRE Certificate Holders to inform all relevant parties accordingly.
