Pakistan Petroleum Limited Announces New Hydrocarbon Discovery in Sindh

Sujawal: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has achieved a significant milestone with the discovery of gas and condensate at its exploratory well Rahi X-1, situated within the Shah Bandar Exploration License in Sujawal, Sindh Province. The announcement was made in a report dated July 30, 2026, marking the fourth consecutive discovery in the Shah Bandar Block by PPL, which holds a 63% working interest in the venture. The joint venture partners include Mari Energies Limited with a 32% working interest, while Sindh Energy Holding Company Limited (SEHCL) and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) each hold a 2.5% stake.

The Rahi X-1 well was initiated on June 17, 2026, with a drilling depth reaching 2,612 meters. The primary objective was to assess the hydrocarbon potential of the Upper Sand of the Lower Goru Formation. The discovery was confirmed through the analysis of wireline logs data, identifying a hydrocarbon-bearing zone, which was subsequently tested using a cased hole drill stem test (DST). During the testing phase, the well demonstrated a production rate of 0.493 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas and 12 barrels of condensate per day. The wellhead flowing pressure was recorded at 133 pounds per square inch with a 32/64" choke from the Lower Goru Upper Sands (A - Sand).

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), this discovery is a notable addition to the ongoing developments in the Shah Bandar Block. The disclosure aligns with the compliance requirements set forth by Section 96 of the Securities Act, 2015, and Clause 5.6.1 of the Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited Regulations.

This development underscores PPL's continued success in hydrocarbon exploration within the designated market category, contributing to the energy sector's growth and diversification in Pakistan.
