Bestway Cement Limited Reports Moderate Financial Growth Amid Economic Challenges

Lahore: The Board of Directors of Bestway Cement Limited presented their annual report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026, detailing the company's financial performance amidst a recovering Pakistani economy. On August 12, 2026, the report highlighted a GDP growth of 3.7% for the country, counterbalanced by an inflation rate that climbed to 11.1%, driven by rising global oil prices and supply chain disruptions due to Middle Eastern conflicts.

Bestway Cement, a leading entity in Pakistan's cement industry, recorded a gross turnover of Rs. 172.3 billion, marking a 2.3% increase over the previous year's Rs. 168.5 billion. Net turnover showed a minor move with a 0.5% rise, reaching Rs. 108.3 billion from Rs. 107.8 billion. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company's gross profit experienced a significant decline from Rs. 37.3 billion in 2025 to Rs. 32.5 billion in 2026.

Despite these challenges, Bestway Cement maintained its position as the largest cement producer in the country. The company's local cement dispatches increased by 3.9%, contributing to an overall industry dispatch growth of 7.2% to 50.5 million tonnes. However, export volumes saw a decline of 2.2%, attributed to geopolitical tensions and border closures with Afghanistan.

The company's financial charges decreased significantly to Rs. 5.4 billion, down from Rs. 7.6 billion the previous year, due to reduced borrowings and lower interest rates. Unconsolidated profit before tax remained steady at Rs. 36.4 billion, while unconsolidated profit after tax saw a rise to Rs. 25.8 billion from Rs. 23.9 billion in 2025.

Earnings per share increased to Rs. 43.2 compared to Rs. 40.0 last year, reflecting a modest improvement in shareholder returns. The total unconsolidated equity of Bestway Cement stood at Rs. 133.9 billion, up from Rs. 128.2 billion in the previous year, indicating a stable financial position despite the challenges faced.

The company's net current liabilities increased to Rs. 40.1 billion, primarily due to the inclusion of the current portion of long-term borrowings and a strategic preference for short-term borrowing to capitalize on interest rate cuts. This financial strategy underscores the company's adaptability in response to the evolving economic landscape.

In conclusion, Bestway Cement Limited navigated the complexities of the fiscal year with strategic financial management and maintained its leadership in the market, despite the broader economic challenges facing the region.
