Karachi: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), in collaboration with Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), has announced a significant gas discovery from the Dolphin X-1 well, situated in the Sirani Exploration License area in District Sujawal, Sindh Province. This announcement was made in a report dated August 17, 2026.
The Dolphin X-1 well, in which PPL holds a 75% working interest while GHPL holds the remaining 25%, was initially spudded on April 17, 2026. The exploratory drilling reached a measured depth of 3,850 meters, targeting the hydrocarbon potential of the Chiltan Formation. Indicators of hydrocarbon presence were confirmed through drilling results and open-hole logs data.
Post-acid testing of the Chiltan Formation revealed good quality gas with a heating value of approximately 1,000 Btu/scf, flowing at a rate of 0.942 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) against a wellhead flowing pressure of 211 psig through a 32/64" choke. During pre-acid testing, the formation also produced condensate at an initial rate of 94 barrels per day (BPD), which decreased to 46 BPD within 24 hours. No condensate was found in the subsequent post-acid testing. The initial condensate presence suggests promising hydrocarbon potential warranting further exploration.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), this development underscores the presence of a viable petroleum system and opens a new exploration frontier across the onshore marshy area, with potential extensions into shallow offshore regions.
The details were submitted in compliance with Section 96 of the Securities Act, 2015, and Clause 5.6.1 of the Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited Regulations, ensuring dissemination among the exchange members.
