Samba Bank Limited Reports Steady Financial Performance Amid Rising Borrowings

Karachi: Samba Bank Limited (SBL) has announced its financial results for the half year and second quarter ended June 30, 2026, with the Board of Directors meeting held on August 20, 2026, to approve the figures. The bank reported a profit after taxation of 273.67 million rupees for the half year, reflecting a notable increase from the 185.53 million rupees reported in the same period last year. Despite the improved profitability, the bank declared no dividends, bonus shares, or rights shares.

The financial results reveal that the bank’s total assets increased to 228.26 billion rupees from 206.44 billion rupees as of December 31, 2025. This growth is largely driven by a significant rise in investments, which stood at 142.01 billion rupees, up from 117.36 billion rupees at the end of the previous year. However, advances decreased to 55.34 billion rupees from 60.61 billion rupees.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the bank’s borrowings surged to 94.68 billion rupees, marking a very large or significant move from 52.21 billion rupees previously. This increase in borrowings coincides with a decrease in deposits, which now total 104.44 billion rupees, down from 118.93 billion rupees.

The bank’s net mark-up/interest income for the half year reached 2.22 billion rupees, falling from 2.94 billion rupees in the corresponding period of 2025. Non-mark-up/interest income also showed a decline, totaling 804.64 million rupees compared to 884.79 million rupees in the previous year. Despite these decreases, profit before taxation rose to 554.75 million rupees from 405.20 million rupees, underscoring the bank’s ability to manage costs effectively.

SBL’s financial statements, including the Statement of Profit and Loss Account, Statement of Financial Position, Cash Flow Statement, and Statement of Changes in Equity, will be disseminated through PUCARS as required. The bank’s basic and diluted earnings per share improved to 0.27 rupees from 0.18 rupees, indicative of its sustained profitability in a challenging market environment.

In summary, while Samba Bank Limited has reported a robust profit increase, the financial results highlight the bank’s strategic adjustments in asset management and funding sources amid changing market dynamics.
