Karachi: Trading activities involving the Government of Pakistan Ijarah Sukuk (GIS) are set to be suspended temporarily later this month due to an upcoming rental payment. The suspension will affect both the Fixed Rental Rate (FRR) and Variable Rental Rate (VRR) GIS issues, dated September 18, 2024, with the payment scheduled for September 18, 2026. This information was disseminated to market participants in a report dated September 4, 2026.
The suspension of trading, clearing, and settlement activities at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), along with the movement restrictions in Sub Accounts and Investor Accounts at the Central Depository Company (CDC), is intended to facilitate the rental payment process. According to the schedule, the suspension at PSX is set from September 15 to September 17, 2026, while the shut period at CDC will extend from September 16 to September 17, 2026.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), this suspension will affect a range of securities. These include the 3-Year, 5-Year, and 10-Year Fixed Rental Rate Sukuk with maturity dates set for September 18, 2027, September 18, 2029, and September 18, 2034, respectively. Similarly, the 3-Year, 5-Year, and 10-Year Variable Rental Rate Sukuk with the same maturity dates will also observe the suspension.
This move aims to ensure a smooth rental payment process for all eligible investors. The designated market category for these securities is the primary market auction at PSX.
