Din Textile Mills Ltd. Swings Back to Profitability Amid Industry Challenges

Karachi: Din Textile Mills Ltd. reported a return to profitability for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026, citing improved manufacturing efficiency and reduced finance costs as key factors in its financial turnaround. This marks a significant reversal from the previous year's loss, despite a challenging operating environment characterized by regional conflicts and fluctuating global trade conditions.

According to the company's 39th Annual Report, presented on October 1, 2026, Din Textile Mills achieved a profit after taxation of Rs. 103.6 million, a stark contrast to the Rs. 706.5 million loss recorded in 2025. The company's net sales, however, declined by 17.52 percent, amounting to Rs. 33.09 billion, down from Rs. 40.12 billion in the previous year. Despite this decrease, a better gross margin and a 30.66 percent reduction in finance costs enabled the company to report positive financial results.

The textile sector, a significant component of the Pakistani economy, faced numerous obstacles throughout the year. High energy tariffs, competitive pressures from imported yarn, and the need to rely on imported cotton amid domestic supply shortages posed significant challenges. "According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX)," these factors have continued to weigh heavily on the industry.

Din Textile Mills managed to navigate these hurdles by focusing on procurement discipline, production efficiency, and energy management. The company's gross profit increased by 11.14 percent to Rs. 4.16 billion, reflecting better recovery of manufacturing costs despite lower sales. Other income also saw a notable increase of 27.43 percent to Rs. 246.1 million.

The company's financial position showed signs of strengthening. Shareholders' equity rose to Rs. 10.78 billion from Rs. 7.05 billion the previous year. Long-term financing was reduced by Rs. 912.2 million, and short-term borrowings decreased by Rs. 2.91 billion. Cash and bank balances, however, fell to Rs. 428.9 million from Rs. 883.0 million, as the company continued to rationalize its financing structure.

Despite the improved financial performance, the board decided against declaring a dividend for the fiscal year, citing the need to support working capital requirements and preserve liquidity amidst ongoing uncertainties in the textile industry. The board expressed a commitment to reassessing the dividend position in the future, contingent on the company's profitability, cash flows, and overall financial position.

The directors' report emphasized the importance of maintaining disciplined management of cash flows and cost control to navigate the demanding economic landscape. The company's earnings per share rose to Rs. 1.97, recovering from a loss per share of Rs. 13.47 reported in the previous year.

As the industry continues to grapple with challenges such as fluctuating cotton prices, energy costs, and geopolitical tensions, Din Textile Mills remains focused on operational improvements and strategic investments to support future growth and maintain financial stability.
