Karachi: Popular Islamic Modaraba held a corporate briefing session to discuss its financial performance for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2026, where it disclosed a notable decrease in net profit and return metrics compared to the previous year.
According to the report dated October 16, 2026, the modaraba's total assets stood at 230.47 million, reflecting a slight decline from the 238.08 million reported in 2025. Total liabilities also decreased, amounting to 16.09 million compared to 18.74 million in the prior year.
The certificate holders' equity saw a slight reduction, recording 214.38 million, down from 219.34 million in 2025. Net profit experienced a significant drop, falling to 15.04 million from the 25.71 million reported in the previous year—an indicator of the challenging financial landscape faced by the modaraba.
Earnings per certificate decreased to 0.75 from 1.39 in 2025. The cash dividend per certificate was reduced to 0.70, compared to the 1.00 distributed in the prior year. These figures highlight the impact of the decreased profitability on shareholder returns.
Return on equity and return on assets both showed big declines, with the former falling to 7.01% from 11.72%—a very large or significant move—and the latter decreasing to 6.52% from 10.80%, signaling diminished financial efficiency. The breakup value slightly decreased to 10.72 from 10.97 in 2025, indicating a minor move in asset valuation.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the financial downturn is primarily attributed to a decrease in net profit, coupled with a decline in both return on equity and return on assets metrics.
Popular Islamic Modaraba's financial results underscore a challenging year, with a marked decline in profitability and returns, reflecting broader market trends and financial pressures.
