Siddiqsons Tin Plate Limited Reports Return to Profitability Amid Industry Challenges

Karachi: The Directors of Siddiqsons Tin Plate Limited have announced a return to profitability for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026, according to their Annual Report released on October 19, 2026. This marks a significant turnaround for the company, which had previously faced substantial losses.

The global economic landscape in FY 2025-26 was marred by geopolitical tensions, trade-policy uncertainties, and inflationary pressures. The Middle East conflict further exacerbated these challenges, particularly affecting energy markets and logistics. Despite infrastructure expenditure supporting select markets, the global steel industry grappled with subdued demand and excess production capacity. Trade restrictions, including heightened U.S. steel tariffs and the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, added layers of complexity to market access and compliance.

In Pakistan, improving macroeconomic conditions provided some support to industrial activity. However, renewed energy price pressures and geopolitical uncertainty tempered the pace of recovery. The Pakistan Economic Survey highlighted a 6.33% contraction in iron and steel production from July to March FY 2025-26, despite improvements in other manufacturing sectors.

Siddiqsons Tin Plate Limited reported net sales of PKR 2.834 billion, a 40% increase from the preceding year's PKR 2.023 billion. Gross profit rose by 51% to PKR 334.644 million, reflecting an improved gross profit margin of 11.81%. The company achieved a profit before taxation of PKR 38.612 million, reversing the previous year's loss of PKR 229.828 million. After taxation, the profit stood at PKR 3.185 million, compared to a loss of PKR 255.116 million in the prior year.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company's stock performance was indicative of its operational resurgence. A significant increase in production volume to 9,423 metric tons, up 68% from the previous year, boosted capacity utilization to 7.85%.

Despite these gains, the company continues to navigate competitive pressures from low-priced imports, particularly from China, which affect domestic pricing and margins. It has expressed concerns about the dumping of tinplate and the suitability of Galvalume for food packaging, seeking regulatory reviews on these issues.

Operational improvements, including better production planning and cost control, alongside a reduction in finance costs, have fortified the company's financial position. However, challenges such as liquidity constraints and low capacity utilization persist, necessitating ongoing management attention.

The company recorded earnings per share of PKR 0.01, a marked improvement from a loss per share of PKR 1.11 in the previous year. Contributions to the National Exchequer totaled PKR 480 million through various tax and duty payments.

The designated market category for Siddiqsons Tin Plate Limited is industrial manufacturing, with a focus on tinplate production. The company's strategic focus remains on enhancing operational efficiency and securing market position amid evolving industry dynamics.
