MCB Pakistan Stock Market Fund Reports Significant Losses Amid Market Volatility

Karachi: MCB Investment Management Limited has released its financial results for the MCB Pakistan Stock Market Fund, detailing a challenging quarter that ended on September 30, 2026. According to the report dated October 20, 2026, the fund experienced a net loss of 2.44 billion rupees for the quarter, a sharp contrast to the net income of 6.93 billion rupees reported in the same period last year.

The fund's total income plummeted to a negative 2.06 billion rupees from 7.20 billion rupees in the previous year. A key factor in this downturn was the unrealized loss on revaluation of investments classified as 'at fair value through profit or loss,' which stood at 2.45 billion rupees, compared to a gain of 5.69 billion rupees in the previous year. Dividend income increased to 331.64 million rupees from 231.74 million rupees, and profit on bank balances rose to 45.39 million rupees from 27.79 million rupees. However, these gains were insufficient to offset the substantial revaluation losses.

Expenses for the fund also increased to 377.86 million rupees from 275.50 million rupees in the prior year. Key contributors to this rise included the remuneration of the Management Company, which increased to 288.13 million rupees, and the Sindh Sales Tax on this remuneration, which rose to 43.22 million rupees. The remuneration of the Trustee and associated taxes also saw an increase, alongside a new fee and subscription annual listing fee of 125,000 rupees.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the financial results highlight the impact of market volatility on investment funds, underscoring the challenges faced by fund managers in navigating fluctuating market conditions.

Despite the increased expenses, the absence of taxation allowed the net loss to remain at 2.44 billion rupees, unchanged from the pre-taxation figure. No allocation of net income was reported for the period, reflecting the fund's overall performance downturn during this quarter.
