National Investment Trust Reports Significant Net Loss for September Quarter

Karachi: The National Investment Trust Limited (NITL) has reported a significant net loss for the quarter ending September 30, 2026, according to its unaudited condensed interim income statement. The report, dated October 26, 2026, reveals a notable downturn in financial performance compared to the same period last year.

The income statement shows a total income of negative 1.42 billion rupees for the quarter, a substantial decline from the positive total income of 2.29 billion rupees recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025. This downturn was primarily driven by a net unrealised diminution of 2.62 billion rupees on the re-measurement of investments classified as financial assets at fair value through profit or loss. Additionally, dividend income dropped to 867 million rupees from 1.12 billion rupees the previous year.

On the expense side, NITL incurred total expenses of 571 million rupees, down from 690 million rupees in the prior year. The remuneration of the management company and related taxes remained a significant portion of the expenses, amounting to 461.61 million rupees and 69.24 million rupees, respectively. Despite lower expenses, the company's net loss from operating activities stood at 1.99 billion rupees.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), NITL's financial challenges are further highlighted in its comprehensive income statement. The statement indicates a total comprehensive loss of 6.43 billion rupees for the quarter, a sharp contrast to the comprehensive income of 21.35 billion rupees reported in the same period last year. This was significantly impacted by a net unrealised diminution of 7.43 billion rupees on the re-measurement of investments classified as fair value through other comprehensive income.

The designated market category for this report underscores the financial sector's volatility and the company's current fiscal challenges. These results reflect a very large or significant move in the company's financial performance and raise questions about potential strategic adjustments moving forward.
