Karachi: The AKD Opportunity Fund has released its annual report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026, documenting a decrease in net income compared to the previous year, as per data disclosed on October 16, 2026. The report highlights a notable increase in expenses, which have significantly impacted the fund's financial outcomes.
The fund's total income for 2026 stood at 289.25 million rupees, a decline from the 322.86 million rupees recorded in 2025. This downturn was primarily driven by a substantial reduction in the net unrealized gain on re-measurement of investment classified as 'financial assets at fair value through profit or loss', which fell to 58.13 million rupees from 183.15 million rupees in the previous year. Conversely, the fund reported a realized gain on the sale of investments classified as 'financial assets at fair value through profit or loss' of 201.81 million rupees, up from 110.62 million rupees, representing a very large or significant move in this category.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the fund's expenses surged to 42.12 million rupees in 2026 from 29.84 million rupees in 2025. This increase was largely attributed to higher remuneration costs for AKD Investment Management Limited, the management company, which rose to 26.25 million rupees from 21.08 million rupees. Additionally, securities transaction expenses saw a significant jump to 8.29 million rupees compared to 1.54 million rupees in the prior year.
Despite these financial pressures, the fund's net income before taxation amounted to 247.13 million rupees, down from 293.02 million rupees in 2025. Notably, the fund did not incur any taxation charges for the reported period. After accounting for income already paid on units redeemed, the net income for the year was 229.22 million rupees, marginally decreasing from 230.44 million rupees.
The allocation of net income for the year included 205.99 million rupees relating to capital gains and 23.23 million rupees excluding capital gains. The report provides valuable insights into the fund's performance, which is listed under the designated market category.
