Islamabad: Shareholders of Askari Bank Limited are preparing for the election of directors at the company's upcoming 34th Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled to take place on March 17, 2026, at Shamadan Hall, Serena Hotel, Islamabad. The meeting will begin at 10:00 am, as announced by the bank in adherence to Section 159(4) of the Companies Act, 2017.
Ten candidates have submitted their nominations to stand for election as directors, as per the requirements laid out in Section 159(3) of the Companies Act, 2017. The candidates include Lt. Gen. Anwar Ali Hyder, HI (M) (Retd), Mr. Jahangir Piracha, Maj. Gen. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, HI (M) (Retd), Syed Bakhtiyar Kazmi, Mr. Khurshid Zafar, Ms. Sima Kamil, Mr. Manzoor Ahmed - NIT Nominee, Raja Muhammad Abbas, Ms. Vadiyya Khalil, and Muhammad Asif Saleem.
The number of individuals who have declared their candidacy is equal to the number of director positions established by the Board in accordance with Section 159 (1) of the Companies Act, 2017. Consequently, these nominees are set to be elected as directors of Askari Bank Limited at the forthcoming AGM, pending clearance from the State Bank of Pakistan.
In accordance with Article 131 of the Articles of Association of the Bank, Mr. Zia Ijaz will continue in his role as a deemed director, in alignment with Section 188 (3) of the Companies Act, 2017. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), there is no change in the company's market status as it prepares for this significant meeting in its governance calendar.
