Bank Alfalah Reports Increased Profits and Optimistic Outlook for 2024

Karachi: Bank Alfalah Limited has disclosed its financial achievements for the half year ending June 30, 2024. The unconsolidated condensed interim financial statements reveal significant growth amid economic stabilization efforts and fiscal prudence in Pakistan.

In the financial period under review, Bank Alfalah announced a profit after tax (PAT) of PKR 20.609 billion, which marks a 10.7% increase from the same period last year. This financial growth is attributed to robust markup income and a notable rise in non-markup revenues. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the Bank's performance aligns with broader market improvements as the KSE-100 index surged by 25.6% during the same timeframe.

The first half of 2024 has been pivotal for Pakistan's economy, witnessing several key events such as the General Elections and the conclusion of the IMF's Stand-By Arrangement, which paved the way for a USD 7.0 billion Extended Fund Facility. Economic indicators have shown positive trends including a growth in real GDP and a reduction in inflation to 12.6% in June 2024 from a high of 29.7% in December 2023. These factors contributed to a more stable economic environment, encouraging financial institutions like Bank Alfalah to capitalize on improved market conditions.

The Bank's total assets increased slightly to PKR 3.353 trillion, with deposits growing to PKR 2.102 trillion, up 18.3% year-over-year. The advances portfolio also saw an increase to PKR 772.121 billion. The Bank has successfully maintained a cautious credit approach, which is reflected in its non-performing loan ratio of 4.9%, fully covered by a robust coverage ratio of 118.5%.

On August 1, 2024, the Board of Directors declared an interim cash dividend of PKR 2.00 per share for the quarter, contributing to a total interim dividend of PKR 4.00 per share for the first half of the year.

Looking ahead, Bank Alfalah is poised for continued growth. The institution is focused on expanding its deposit base, particularly through low-cost deposits, and enhancing service delivery across its domestic network. The strategic emphasis remains on leveraging technology and innovative banking solutions to improve efficiency and customer experience.

In conclusion, Bank Alfalah's performance in the first half of 2024 positions it strongly in Pakistan's banking sector, with sound financial results and a strategic plan that promises resilience and growth amid evolving economic conditions.
