Bank of Punjab Addresses Credit Card Irregularities Amid Speculative Reports

Lahore: The Bank of Punjab has issued a statement addressing recent reports concerning irregular credit card transactions, clarifying that these were not the result of a cyberattack. On January 12, 2026, the Bank emphasized that the transactions were due to a temporary technical glitch, which has since been rectified.

The bank initiated an internal review after routine monitoring identified the irregular transactions. The findings confirmed that the unauthorized transactions were executed by a certain number of the bank's existing customers, not tied to any specific government scheme or program, such as the Asaan Karobar Card. The issue was limited to a specific group of credit card holders.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the bank's measures to address the situation were promptly implemented. This includes recovery actions aligned with the bank's standard procedures. While most affected customers have begun settling their over-limit balances, the bank continues to implement all necessary remedial measures.

The bank refuted claims about the quantum of the amount involved in the transactions, describing such reports as speculative and exaggerated. It reassured stakeholders that the situation is fully manageable. Impacted customers have been contacted and informed about the situation, while those not approached by the bank remain unaffected.

In its statement, the bank urged customers to be cautious of unauthorized advances and to engage only with verified bank officials. For further information, customers are encouraged to contact the Bank of Punjab helpline.

This statement is part of the bank's broader campaign to raise awareness about cyber fraudulent activities.
