Dost Steels Limited Reports Significant Decline in Financial Performance

Karachi: Dost Steels Limited has reported its financial results for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2026, showing a notable downturn in its financial performance compared to the previous year. The company faced significant challenges, as indicated by the comprehensive financial statement released on October 9, 2026.

The total assets of the company stood at 11.45 billion rupees at the end of June 2026, a decrease from the 11.53 billion rupees recorded in the previous year. This decline is largely attributed to a decrease in property, plant, and equipment, which fell slightly from 11.45 billion rupees to 11.37 billion rupees. Current assets saw a moderate increase, reaching 45.63 million rupees from the previous 40.30 million rupees.

The equity and liabilities section reveals a decrease in non-current liabilities from 3.12 billion rupees to 2.83 billion rupees, while current liabilities increased significantly, marked by a rise in short-term borrowings from 298.85 million rupees to 598.56 million rupees. This shift indicates a change in the company's borrowing structure.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), Dost Steels Limited reported a total comprehensive loss of 164.83 million rupees for the year, a substantial downturn from the previous year's comprehensive income of 7.38 billion rupees. This loss is primarily driven by a gross loss of 109.67 million rupees and increased administrative expenses and finance costs.

The company experienced no sales revenue for the fiscal year, similar to the previous period, and incurred a significant cost of sales at 109.67 million rupees. The finance costs decreased from 129.25 million rupees to 64.67 million rupees, showing a big move in financial management; however, the overall financial health of the company remains concerning.

The company's profit or loss before taxation was a loss of 189.01 million rupees, a sharp decline from the profit of 243.46 million rupees in the previous year. Taxation for the year contributed a positive 24.18 million rupees, contrasting with the previous year's tax expense of 58.99 million rupees, yet it was insufficient to offset the overall financial decline.

Earnings per share also reflected this downturn, with a loss of 0.37 rupees per share, compared to an earnings per share of 0.68 rupees in the previous year. The report details highlight the need for strategic realignment to address the financial challenges faced by Dost Steels Limited.
