K-Electric Limited Receives Regulatory Approval for Partial Write-Off Claims

Karachi: K-Electric Limited, a major player in Pakistan's energy sector, has announced the approval of a significant portion of its write-off claims by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA). The announcement, made public on October 5, 2023, comes after a detailed review process under the regulatory framework of the Securities Act, 2015, and rules stipulated by the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).

The company disclosed that NEPRA has approved a sum of PKR 50.01 billion in write-off claims out of a total PKR 76.1 billion submitted for the previous control period spanning fiscal years 2017 to 2023. This decision aligns with the Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) framework, which allows K-Electric to claim write-offs based on actuals, contingent on meeting specific criteria set forth by the regulatory authority.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), K-Electric had filed for these claims in compliance with NEPRA's MYT Reconsideration Decision, dated July 5, 2018. The approval marks a critical regulatory achievement for K-Electric, which continues to serve as a key energy provider in the region.

In response to NEPRA's decision, K-Electric stated that it is currently evaluating the ruling in detail. The company plans to consider all available legal remedies, if necessary, in accordance with statutory provisions. The disclosure form regarding this material information has been signed and authorized by representatives of K-Electric, as per the regulations of the PSX.

The energy sector remains a critical component of Pakistan's market, and developments in tariff regulations and financial claims such as these are watched closely by investors and stakeholders.
