Karachi: MCB Investment Management Limited, the management company for the Alhamra Opportunity Fund, has announced its financial results for the half-year ending December 31, 2024. The Board of Directors approved these results during a meeting held at the company's Head Office in Karachi on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. The fund's total assets increased to 275.14 million from 203.25 million as of June 30, 2024. Investments saw a substantial rise to 267.06 million, compared to 175.86 million at the end of the previous fiscal year. This growth in assets has been partly attributed to a significant net unrealized appreciation on the re-measurement of investments classified as financial assets at fair value through profit or loss, amounting to 41.68 million.
Liabilities for the period slightly increased to 2.73 million from 2.05 million. Net assets also saw substantial growth, reaching 272.41 million from 201.19 million. The number of units in issue rose to 1.88 million, up from 1.71 million, with the net asset value per unit increasing to 145.10 from 117.97.
The fund's income for the half-year totaled 56.15 million, with major contributions from dividend income, which stood at 12.63 million, and a net realized gain on the sale of investments amounting to 1.00 million. Expenses during the same period amounted to 5.52 million, leading to a net income before taxation of 50.63 million. After accounting for income already paid on units redeemed, the net income available for distribution was 42.24 million.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the fund's comprehensive income for the period was 50.63 million. The total comprehensive income for the quarter ended December 31, 2024, was reported at 52.47 million.
During the period under review, the fund reported a net decrease in cash and cash equivalents by 21.39 million, lowering the cash balance from 25.69 million at the beginning of the period to 4.30 million by the end of December 2024. This was primarily due to cash used in operating activities amounting to 41.97 million, despite generating 20.59 million from financing activities.
