Karachi: MCB Investment Management Limited, the management company overseeing the MCB Pakistan Sovereign Fund, announced impressive financial results for the first half of the fiscal year ending December 31, 2024. The company's board of directors approved the financial statements during a meeting held at their head office in Karachi on February 4, 2025. The results reflect a substantial performance improvement, highlighting key financial metrics and significant growth in net assets.
For the half-year period, the company reported a total income of 3.15 billion rupees, a substantial increase compared to the 478.34 million rupees recorded for the same period in 2023. This remarkable rise in income is primarily attributed to the income generated from government securities, which surged to 2.04 billion rupees from 412.64 million rupees in the previous year.
Expenses for the half-year were reported at 321.59 million rupees, a significant increase from the 52.28 million rupees recorded in the same period the previous year. The increase in expenses is primarily due to higher remuneration for the management company, which rose to 247.81 million rupees from 29.57 million rupees, as well as increased selling and marketing expenses and taxation costs.
The net income for the period before taxation stood at 2.83 billion rupees, a significant rise from 426.05 million rupees in 2023. The net income after taxation remained the same at 2.83 billion rupees, showcasing the fund's strong financial health and management efficiency.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the net assets of MCB Pakistan Sovereign Fund witnessed a remarkable growth, rising to 27.68 billion rupees from 11.08 billion rupees as of June 30, 2024. This growth in net assets was accompanied by an increase in the number of units issued, which rose to 459.22 million units from 204.99 million units in the previous period.
Furthermore, the net asset value per unit increased to 60.28 rupees from 54.06 rupees, reflecting the fund's enhanced financial performance and increased unit holder value.
The company also reported a net cash increase of 86.19 million rupees for the period, bringing cash and cash equivalents to 2.93 billion rupees by the end of December 2024. This is a significant improvement from the 2.58 billion rupees reported at the end of the previous period.
