Mughal Iron & Steel Industries Reports Surge in Profits Amid Decline in Revenue

Lahore: Mughal Iron & Steel Industries Limited has released its annual report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026, showcasing a significant increase in profits despite a decline in gross sales. The report was made public on October 7, 2026, reflecting the company's strategic focus on strengthening its domestic market presence despite challenging economic conditions.

The group, comprising Mughal Iron & Steel Industries Limited and its subsidiary, Mughal Energy Limited, operates in the ferrous, non-ferrous, and energy business segments. The principal activity of the holding company involves manufacturing and selling mild steel products, while the subsidiary focuses on generating and supplying electricity.

During FY2026, Pakistan's economy experienced a gradual recovery from stabilization, marked by a shift in business confidence and macroeconomic stability up to February 2026. However, the latter part of the year saw renewed inflationary pressures and economic uncertainty, influenced by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The steel industry, a significant component of Pakistan's economy, faced challenges due to elevated energy costs, taxation pressures, and volatility in raw material prices. Nonetheless, the industry's resilience was supported by the country's structural housing and infrastructure needs.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), Mughal Iron & Steel Industries reported consolidated gross sales of Rs. 90,921.567 million, down from Rs. 102,279.112 million in the previous year. This decline was primarily attributed to lower average selling prices and reduced export volumes. Despite this, the profit for the year surged to Rs. 2,193.682 million from Rs. 852.225 million, demonstrating a substantial improvement in financial performance.

The company's standalone financial results mirrored this trend, with gross sales decreasing to Rs. 90,921.567 million from Rs. 102,791.772 million in the previous year. However, profits rose significantly to Rs. 2,487.369 million from Rs. 965.518 million, highlighting enhanced margins and operational efficiencies.

The decline in revenue was countered by improved gross margins, supported by a favorable sales mix and disciplined inventory management. The ferrous segment's sales volumes increased, further underscoring the company's strategic focus on domestic market strength. Conversely, the non-ferrous segment saw a decline as the company adopted a more cautious approach due to market volatility.

Mughal Energy Limited, the energy segment of the group, reported no revenue during the fiscal year as it was in the process of installing a 36.50 MW captive hybrid power plant. The subsidiary successfully commissioned the main 31.50 MW turbine, reaching its Commercial Operation Date on August 31, 2026.

The group's consolidated asset base expanded by Rs. 24,735.357 million, leading to a total net worth of Rs. 36,628.128 million as of June 30, 2026. Of this amount, Rs. 36,250.020 million was attributable to the equity owners of the holding company.

In conclusion, Mughal Iron & Steel Industries Limited has demonstrated robust financial performance with significant profit growth, despite a challenging economic environment and a decline in gross sales. The company's strategic focus on enhancing domestic market presence and optimizing operations has been pivotal in achieving these results.
