Rahim Yar Khan: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has made a significant gas discovery at its Chak 202-1 exploratory well in the Mari East Block, District Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab Province, announced on August 13, 2024.

The Chak 202-1 well, which was spudded on June 29, 2024, reached a final depth of 1,956.50 meters using OGDCL's internal expertise. Wireline logs interpretation and the initial Drill Stem Test (DST-1) in the Sui Main Limestone (SML) layer revealed a gas flow rate of 6.15 million Standard Cubic Feet Per Day (MMSCFD) through a 32/64" choke, with a Well Head Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of 1340 Pounds per Square Inch (psi).

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), this discovery marks the second consecutive successful find in the Mari East Block and highlights OGDCL’s ongoing commitment to utilizing its full working interest to explore and develop potential hydrocarbon sites within the country.

The new gas discovery is poised to contribute substantially to the national energy supply, addressing the ongoing demand-supply gap and augmenting the country’s hydrocarbon reserves. This strategic advancement underscores OGDCL's efforts in bolstering Pakistan's energy infrastructure with indigenous resources.
