Pakistan Petroleum Limited Boosts Domestic Production with Cost-Efficient Strategies

Karachi: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced substantial gains in domestic hydrocarbon production from April to November 2024, achieved through strategic initiatives aimed at maximizing the output of its mature fields. These efforts have resulted in significant increases in natural gas, oil, and LPG production, reflecting the company's commitment to bolstering Pakistan's energy security and reducing reliance on imports.

The company reported an increase of approximately 17 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of natural gas, 400 barrels per day of oil and condensate, and 4 tonnes per day of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from its fields. These gains are the result of cost-effective measures such as rigless interventions, surface system optimization, and well workovers, which have been implemented to counteract the natural decline in production from mature fields.

Key achievements include an enhancement of 8.4 MMscfd in gas output through successful workovers on Sui-71 and Sui-73, and a 7.1 MMscfd increase in gas production from the Sui and Gambat South Gas Fields via surface debottlenecking. Moreover, enhancements in the artificial lift systems at Adhi-28, Adhi-29, and Adhi South-5 have delivered 200 barrels per day of oil and condensate, 2 tonnes per day of LPG, and 0.5 MMscfd of gas. Additionally, acid wash treatments and wellbore cleanouts at the Adhi, Hala, and Sui Fields have contributed 200 barrels per day of oil and condensate, 2 tonnes per day of LPG, and 1.3 MMscfd of gas.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), these initiatives highlight PPL’s dedication to enhancing indigenous hydrocarbon production effectively and economically. By doing so, the company aims to contribute significantly to bridging the energy demand-supply gap and conserving foreign exchange for the nation.
