Pakistan Stock Exchange Announces Resumption of Trading for Variable Rental Rate Sukuk

Karachi: Trading in the Variable Rental Rate (VRR) Government of Pakistan Ijarah Sukuk (GIS), which had been temporarily suspended, is set to resume on September 18, 2026. This decision follows the Pakistan Stock Exchange's (PSX) recent announcement, which also included revised profit rates for the instruments issued on September 18, 2024.

The resumption affects the 3, 5, and 10-year VRR GIS, with each now carrying updated profit rates that reflect the latest market conditions. This adjustment is crucial for market participants who have been keenly awaiting the reopening of trading in these instruments.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the 3-Year VRR GIS, maturing on September 18, 2027, will now have a net profit rate of 11.3759%, up from its previous rate of 10.8885%. This adjustment signifies a moderate move in the interest rate environment.

The 5-Year VRR GIS, due to mature on September 18, 2029, will see its net profit rate increase to 11.5459% from 11.0585%, also indicating a moderate move. Meanwhile, the 10-Year VRR GIS, with a maturity date of September 18, 2034, will now offer a net profit rate of 11.6759%, unchanged from its previous rate, thereby showing no change.

The PSX's announcement comes as part of its regular updates to ensure that the market operates smoothly and that participants have the most current and accurate information for their trading decisions. The adjustment in profit rates is expected to align the instruments more closely with the prevailing economic conditions, offering investors improved returns in line with the latest six-month weighted average yields.
