Security Investment Bank Ltd. Reports Decline in Operating Profit Amid Economic Volatility

Karachi: The Security Investment Bank Limited has reported a decrease in its operating profit for the quarter ending on September 30, 2026, as detailed in the company's 3rd Quarterly Report released on November 2, 2026. The company declared an operating profit of Rs. 12.667 million for the period, a decline from the Rs. 27.414 million recorded during the same quarter of the previous year. This reduction reflects the challenging economic landscape and heightened market volatility.

Pakistan's economy, while showing signs of gradual stabilization, continues to grapple with significant challenges, including high public debt, weak tax collection, and energy-sector issues. Political uncertainty, global economic conditions, and climate-related shocks further add to the economic vulnerabilities. In an attempt to address these challenges, the government is implementing reforms in taxation, energy, exports, investment, and governance to bolster macroeconomic stability and promote sustainable long-term growth.

During the first quarter of the fiscal year 2026-27, Pakistan's current account remained in deficit, primarily due to a widening trade gap. The deficit was recorded at US$543 million for July-August 2026, marking a 36% reduction from the same period last year, aided by robust remittances.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) maintained its policy rate at 11.50%, as the Monetary Policy Committee aimed to support growth and counter inflationary pressures, despite geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East, which have increased global energy, freight, and insurance costs. The SBP's monetary tightening measures have been instrumental in containing inflationary effects and anchoring expectations.

Pakistan's capital market has remained active, albeit volatile, throughout the July-September 2026 period. The KSE-100 index closed September at approximately 169,969 points, as selling pressure influenced market dynamics. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), investor participation was robust, though geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty considerably influenced market performance.

Security Investment Bank Ltd. also reported a decrease in its earnings per share, which stood at Rs. 0.172 for the quarter, compared to Rs. 0.448 during the corresponding period last year. Despite the challenging environment, the board expressed gratitude towards the Pakistan Stock Exchange and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan for their ongoing support, as well as the dedicated efforts of the company's management and staff.
