Shanghai Stock Exchange Extends Condolences on Passing of Former PSX Chairperson


Karachi: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has received a formal letter of condolence from the Shanghai Stock Exchange following the passing of Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, the former Chairperson of the Board. The letter, dated December 30, 2025, was addressed to the Board of Directors of the Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited and acknowledged Dr. Akhtar’s significant contributions to both the PSX and the broader economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.



Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, known for her visionary leadership, was a pivotal figure in strengthening ties between the two stock exchanges. The Shanghai Stock Exchange, a member of the Chinese Investor Consortium, highlighted its long-standing collaboration with Dr. Akhtar, including a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed last year. This MOU marked the beginning of enhanced cooperation in areas such as training and market data sharing between the two exchanges.



According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), Dr. Akhtar played a crucial role in fostering economic partnerships that have shown considerable progress this year. Her efforts in steering the PSX and facilitating international collaborations have been widely recognized.
