Karachi: A substantial loss of share certificates has been reported by Engro Powergen Qadirpur Limited involving a single shareholder. The event recorded on September 19, 2024, involves 500 shares owned by Mr. Pervaiz Lakhani, registered under folio number 47258. The distinctive numbers for these shares are 98932274 to 98932773 with certificate number 40588, as per the company’s records.
The shares were registered at the address of Mr. Lakhani in Sector G-13/3, Islamabad. This loss adds to the growing concerns over the security and management of physical share certificates in the digital era. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company has issued a notice to refrain from dealing with these shares and has alerted the members of the Exchange.
Engro Powergen has stated that if no objections are received within seven days of the notice's publication, duplicate certificates will be issued to Mr. Lakhani to safeguard his investments. This procedure is a standard practice to ensure that the shareholder's interests are not adversely affected while the investigation into the loss is ongoing.
The situation highlights the ongoing issues of certificate management and the need for enhanced measures to secure shareholder assets in Pakistan’s financial landscape.
