Karachi: Share certificates from a number of prominent Pakistani companies have been reported lost or misplaced as of July 19, 2024, prompting alerts across the financial market to prevent unauthorized dealings. The affected entities include Systems Limited, Jahangir Siddiqui and Company Limited, International Industries Limited, SUI Southern Gas Company Limited, Habib Bank Limited, Lucky Cement Limited, and Haleon Pakistan Limited.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), detailed lists and specifications of the missing certificates along with transfer deeds, verified and unverified, have been circulated among exchange members. Companies impacted have been advised to refrain from transactions involving these documents until further notice. If no objections are raised within seven days from the notice, the firms will issue duplicate certificates to the respective shareholders.
Systems Limited reported multiple lost certificates, with specific details ranging from certificate numbers 4262 to 2490 across various folio numbers, affecting individuals such as Zoobia Fatima and Syed Muhammad Ali. The total shares impacted in each instance are reported as either 54 or 500 shares.
In a similar incident, Askari Bank Limited noted the loss of share certificates under folio #20293, originally held by deceased shareholder Mohammad Saleem Akhtar. The lost certificates span a range of numbers, with the most significant being those numbered from 202704751 to 643904319, covering thousands of shares.
Entities like Habib Bank and Lucky Cement have also reported significant losses, with specific certificate numbers and share counts listed for shareholders Salman Ullah and Haniya Bai, respectively.
The stock exchange's vigilance in these matters is crucial to maintaining order and preventing the potential misuse of these financial instruments.
