Karachi: Amid a dynamic market environment, Al Ameen Islamic Fixed Return Fund, managed by UBL Fund Managers Limited, demonstrated notable financial agility, posting significant gains in fixed returns for its investors.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the fund, which strictly adheres to Shariah compliance, has effectively capitalized on the shifting dynamics of Pakistan's debt market in Fiscal Year 2024. Initially focused on maintaining liquidity through cash holdings, the fund transitioned to invest predominantly in Government of Pakistan Ijarah Sukuk (GOP Ijarah Sukuk), aligning with its risk-averse, fixed return strategy.
This strategic pivot came in a year when the debt market saw substantial activity. Treasury bill auctions drew significant attention, with participation peaking at approximately PKR 58.1 trillion, of which the government accepted around PKR 24.2 trillion. The market demonstrated a clear preference for shorter tenor bills, reflecting a broader sentiment that interest rates had reached their peak, leading to heightened activity in 12-month T-Bills over the last two quarters.
The Al Ameen Islamic Fixed Return Fund, benefiting from these market conditions, reported a robust annual return of 21.14% for its I-H allocation plan, marking a significant outperformance against its benchmark, the average of 40 months PKISRV rates which stood at 19.66%. The fund's assets, valued at PKR 5,220 million by June 2024, reflected a strategic concentration in GOP Ijarah Sukuk, accounting for 95% of its total investments.
The success of the fund’s strategy is evident not only in its return metrics but also in its operational achievements. The fund achieved its stated investment objective of providing fixed returns to unit holders who retain their investments until maturity, a promise kept consistently throughout the period.
In light of these results, the fund’s management remains committed to monitoring market conditions and adjusting its asset allocations to maximize returns while adhering to its conservative investment mandate. As the fiscal year concluded, the fund's net asset value per unit remained stable, ensuring a secure and profitable outcome for its investors.
