Trading Resumes for Government Ijarah Sukuk with Revised Profit Rates

Karachi: Trading in the Government of Pakistan Ijarah Sukuk (GIS) is set to recommence for the 3 and 5 Year Fixed and Variable Rental Rate issues, following a suspension initiated earlier this month. The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has announced that trading will resume on Friday, July 24, 2025, with revised profit rates applicable to these financial instruments.

The suspension, announced in a notice dated July 11, 2025, affected the trading of GIS due to pending adjustments in rental payments. The resumption will see the 3 and 5 Year Variable Rental Rate (VRR) instruments, originally issued on June 24, 2024, traded based on updated profit rates.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the revised net profit rate for the 3 Year VRR, maturing on January 24, 2027, will adjust from the previously applied rate of 11.5548% to a new rate of 10.8963%. Meanwhile, the 5 Year VRR, with a maturity date of January 24, 2029, will see its rate shift from the current 11.6848% to 11.0263%. These changes reflect the latest 6-month weighted average yield and spread rates from the January 23, 2024 auction.

The adjustments in profit rates are expected to influence trading patterns for these VRR instruments, categorized under the designated market segment for Government Debt Securities. Market participants are advised to take note of these changes as trading resumes, potentially impacting investment strategies and portfolio allocations within this sector.
