Karachi: Mari Energies Limited has reported a gas discovery at the Soho-1 exploratory well, located in the Sujawal Block of Sindh Province. This marks a significant development for the company and the region, as it is the first successful gas find in the Lower Goru (Massive Sand) Formation in the Sujawal district. The discovery, announced on October 10, 2023, has been described as a new avenue for exploration in the region following previous unsuccessful attempts.

The testing of the Lower Goru Formation at the Soho-1 well revealed promising flow rates. At a choke size of 64/64 inches, the well produced 30.01 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas with a wellhead flowing pressure of 1,482.5 pounds per square inch gauge (psig). Additionally, at a reduced choke size of 32/64 inches, the well yielded 18.84 MMSCFD, with an increased pressure of 3,447.8 psig. These results indicate the potential for substantial gas production from the site.

Further testing of additional formations at the site is currently underway to fully assess the well's potential. This ongoing evaluation will help determine the overall impact and capacity of the discovery. Mari Energies holds a 100% working interest in the Sujawal Block and serves as the operator.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the gas discovery at Soho-1 is noteworthy for its potential implications on the energy market in Sindh. The discovery is expected to contribute to the region's energy resources and may influence future exploration activities in the Lower Goru Formation.
