Karachi: The Hub Power Company Limited, one of Pakistan's leading independent power producers, has passed significant resolutions in its Extraordinary General Meeting held on August 7, 2025. The meeting resulted in the approval of two key financial guarantees aimed at supporting its subsidiaries, Thar Energy Limited (TEL) and ThalNova Power Thar (Private) Limited (TN), in their respective energy projects.
The shareholders of Hub Power Company sanctioned the issuance of a standby letter of credit for an amount up to $31 million for TEL. This financial commitment is intended to address potential funding shortfalls in the Thar Energy project, a move that aligns with previous resolutions passed by the company in 2018 and 2019. The investment is expected to extend until January 2034 or the conclusion of the project's loan tenure, as stipulated in the Sponsor Support Agreement.
Additionally, the meeting saw the approval of another standby letter of credit, this time for $20 million, to support TN. The financial backing for ThalNova Power's undertaking is designed to ensure the project remains financially buoyant, in line with earlier resolutions from April 2019. The backing for TN will remain active until July 2034 or the end of its project loan term.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), these strategic decisions are part of Hubco's broader efforts to solidify its financial commitments in the energy sector. The resolutions also authorize key executives within the company, including the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Company Secretary, to negotiate and secure these financial instruments with banks and financial institutions.
The designated market category for the Hub Power Company Limited is the energy sector, where it continues to play a pivotal role in Pakistan's power generation landscape. The approved financial measures underscore the company's strategy to ensure its projects have the requisite financial support to achieve long-term success.
