Ansari Sugar Mills Reports Significant Financial Losses Amid Decline in Sales

Karachi: Ansari Sugar Mills Ltd. released its financial results for the quarter ending June 30, 2026, revealing significant financial challenges as the company reported continued losses. According to the announcement made on July 27, 2026, during a board meeting held at the company's head office on Merewether Road, Karachi, the board declared no cash dividends, no bonus shares, and no right shares for the shareholders.

The financial statement indicated a notable decrease in total assets to approximately 14.50 billion from 14.63 billion as of September 30, 2025. The decline in current assets, which now stand at 5.45 billion compared to 5.49 billion in the previous period, is primarily attributed to decreased inventory levels, which fell from 3.90 billion to 2.50 billion.

The company's sales for the quarter plummeted to 2,870,339 from 227,895,765 in the same quarter last year, marking a significant decline. This drop in sales resulted in a gross profit of only 880,528, down from 63,810,814, reflecting the company's struggle in maintaining its market position.

Despite a decrease in operating expenses to 18,556,959 from 19,571,287, Ansari Sugar Mills faced a considerable loss before taxation of 130,553,584, compared to 71,954,258 in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The finance cost remained high at 119,671,779, albeit slightly reduced from 158,251,564 previously.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the loss after taxation for the quarter was 129,251,028, significantly worsening from a loss of 66,960,702 recorded in the same period the previous year. The loss per share also increased, reaching (2.30) from (1.19).

The company's liabilities have also shifted, with non-current liabilities rising to 2.05 billion from 1.46 billion, largely due to the introduction of new financial liabilities. Current liabilities experienced a minor move, decreasing to 9.85 billion from 10.49 billion, influenced by a reduction in trade payables and financial liabilities.

Overall, Ansari Sugar Mills faces substantial financial challenges, with a sharp decline in sales and an increase in losses, indicating the need for strategic adjustments to improve its financial health in future quarters.
