Lahore: Noon Sugar Mills Limited reported a substantial increase in net sales for the nine-month period ending June 30, 2026, as disclosed in their Director's Review Report dated July 30, 2026. The company achieved a 10% growth in net sales, rising to 10.32 billion rupees from 9.37 billion rupees in the same period last year. This growth was primarily driven by a significant increase in sugarcane crushing, which rose by 48% to 950,643 metric tons.
Despite the increase in sales, the company faced numerous challenges that affected its financial performance. The gross profit declined to 731 million rupees from 843 million rupees, reflecting a contraction in the gross profit margin from approximately 9% to 7%. The decline in profitability was attributed to higher sugarcane procurement prices and elevated input costs, which pressured the company's margins.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), Noon Sugar Mills reported a loss after tax of 95 million rupees for the period, a significant decline from a profit of 266 million rupees recorded in the previous year. Basic earnings per share also reflected this downturn, registering a loss of 5.77 rupees compared to earnings of 16.13 rupees per share in 2025.
The company's operational performance showed notable improvements, with average sucrose recovery increasing to 10.19% from 10.00%. The distillery division also reported an improved ethanol yield of 247 liters per metric ton, up from 245 liters last year. However, the domestic sugar market remained under pressure due to surplus production in the country, hindering the ability to sell at reasonable prices and resulting in slow stock movement.
Noon Sugar Mills' financial position showed an increase in short-term finances, which rose to 6.71 billion rupees from 2.82 billion rupees, reflecting the company's increased reliance on short-term borrowing. The company's total equity and liabilities increased to 11.36 billion rupees from 8.48 billion rupees.
The Directors' report acknowledges the resilience of the company's business model and its focus on maximizing production efficiencies despite the challenging market conditions. The improved sugar production and ethanol yield are seen as positive indicators of the company's operational capabilities under adverse circumstances.
As the company navigates a complex market landscape, the focus remains on operational excellence and cost optimization to counteract the pressures of a surplus sugar market and subdued ethanol prices.
