The Bank of Punjab Announces Proposed Equity Subscription to Government of Punjab

Lahore: The Bank of Punjab has announced a significant development in its financial strategy with a proposal to issue ordinary shares to the Government of Punjab. This initiative, disclosed in a report dated August 10, 2026, aims to raise up to PKR 30 billion in equity subscription, according to the bank's Board of Directors during their 334th Emergent meeting on August 7, 2026.

The plan, which is pending regulatory and corporate approval, outlines the issuance to be executed in two tranches. The initial tranche of up to PKR 20 billion is expected to be completed by December 31, 2026, with the remaining balance scheduled by June 30, 2027. The proposed price for these ordinary shares is set at PKR 38.20 per share. However, should the market price exceed this figure at the time of issuance, the shares will be priced at the market value plus a five percent premium.

The completion of this issuance is contingent upon obtaining necessary approvals from the bank's shareholders via an Extraordinary General Meeting, as well as from regulatory bodies including the State Bank of Pakistan and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), this move by The Bank of Punjab is aligned with compliance under Section 96 of the Securities Act, 2015, and the PSX Rule Book. The bank has committed to keeping the PSX updated with further developments as per legal and regulatory requirements.
