Karachi: MCB Investment Management Limited has released its financial results for the quarter ending September 30, 2026, revealing a notable downturn in income. According to the unaudited condensed interim income statement for the MCB Pakistan Opportunity Fund - Dividend Yield Plan, total income for the quarter was reported at a negative 95.59 million Rupees, a significant move compared to the 310.31 million Rupees recorded in the same period the previous year.
The report, dated October 20, 2026, shows that income from markup on bank balances increased to 12.87 million Rupees from 4.62 million Rupees, and dividend income rose to 31.18 million Rupees from 13.76 million Rupees. However, a capital loss on the sale of investments amounting to 4.21 million Rupees, compared to a gain of 12.23 million Rupees in 2025, and a net unrealized diminution on re-measurement of investments classified as at fair value through profit or loss, which stood at a decrease of 135.43 million Rupees against an appreciation of 279.71 million Rupees last year, contributed to the decline in total income.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the fund's expenses also saw a rise, totaling 32.08 million Rupees, compared to 12.90 million Rupees in the previous year. The management company's remuneration was 23.28 million Rupees, up from 8.87 million Rupees, and Sindh Sales Tax on this remuneration increased to 3.49 million Rupees from 1.33 million Rupees. Trustee remuneration rose to 1.03 million Rupees from 542,000 Rupees, with corresponding Sindh Sales Tax increasing to 154,000 Rupees from 81,000 Rupees.
Other notable expenses included brokerage and settlement charges of 2.87 million Rupees, up from 1.52 million Rupees, and various fees and professional charges. The net loss before taxation for the period was 127.67 million Rupees, a stark contrast to the net income of 297.41 million Rupees reported for the same quarter in 2025. No taxation was reported for either period.
The financial results highlight the challenges faced by the MCB Pakistan Opportunity Fund amid current market conditions, as reflected in the significant movements in income and expenses compared to the previous year. The designated market category under review has been observing these developments closely.
