Kohat Cement Joins Consortium to Explore Acquisition of IESCO

Karachi: Kohat Cement Company Limited has announced its participation in a consortium aimed at acquiring a significant equity stake in the Islamabad Electric Supply Company Limited (IESCO), according to a report dated October 27, 2026. This strategic move is part of a larger privatization initiative led by the Government of Pakistan.

The consortium, which includes Hub Power Holdings Limited, Lucky Cement Limited, and Metro Ventures (Private) Limited, has expressed interest in acquiring between 51% and 100% of IESCO's equity, along with management control. This development follows the consortium's pre-qualification by the Privatization Commission, allowing them to proceed with comprehensive financial, technical, and legal due diligence on IESCO.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the consortium's bid will eventually be subject to a competitive bidding process, as mandated by the applicable privatization laws. This ensures that the acquisition opportunity is thoroughly evaluated for its commercial viability and compliance with corporate and regulatory standards.

At this stage, Kohat Cement and its consortium partners have not committed to any binding agreements regarding the acquisition. The focus remains on completing due diligence and assessing the feasibility of the transaction before making any definitive commitments. The designated market category for this privatization process underscores its significance within Pakistan's economic landscape.
