Leiner Pak Gelatine Ltd. Faces Cost Pressures Amid Economic Uncertainty

Karachi: The recent Annual General Meeting of Leiner Pak Gelatine Ltd. underscored the financial challenges faced by the company in the fiscal year 2025-26 amid a turbulent economic landscape. The meeting, held on October 28, 2025, reviewed the previous year's minutes and unanimously confirmed them, according to the report dated October 29, 2026.

During the meeting, the Chief Executive provided a comprehensive briefing on the nation's economic environment. He highlighted the gradual improvement in economic activity due to enhanced fiscal management, exchange rate stability, and relatively contained inflation in Pakistan. Nevertheless, the escalation of the Middle East Conflict introduced considerable uncertainty, leading to volatility in international energy prices and increased transportation and logistics costs. These factors presented significant challenges for industries dependent on energy and imported materials.

The Chief Executive addressed the company's financial performance, disclosing a turnover of Rs. 1.626 billion, slightly below the Rs. 1.629 billion achieved in the previous year. Despite the sales figures aligning closely with the prior year, anticipated growth was unachieved. The West Asian Crises had heightened volatility and instability, adversely impacting business activity. Export sales faced notable challenges as well.

According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company's profit after tax was restricted to Rs. 0.293 million, reflecting the impact of increased cost pressures. The substantial increase in energy, raw material prices, and other imported inputs drove up the overall cost of production. The combined effect of subdued economic activity and elevated input costs resulted in lower production volumes and compressed margins.

The meeting also included the presentation of the Audited Accounts for the year ending June 30, 2026, alongside the directors' and auditors' reports. Shareholders raised inquiries concerning the company's financial performance, capacity utilization, and future prospects. These questions were addressed by the Chief Executive and Director of Finance, leading to the unanimous adoption of the accounts.

In a procedural move, M/s. M. Almas & Co., Chartered Accountants, were re-appointed as auditors for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2027, with remuneration to be determined by the Board. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the Chair, marking the adjournment of proceedings.
