Karachi: Merit Packaging Limited has reported a notable improvement in its financial performance for the fiscal year ending 2026, despite experiencing a substantial decline in net sales. According to a corporate briefing session held on November 5, 2026, the company detailed its annual results with a focus on strategic disposals and cost management.
The company, which falls under the designated market category of the manufacturing sector, recorded net sales of 3.43 billion rupees in 2026, marking a 35% decrease from 5.28 billion rupees in 2025. This downturn in sales, however, did not impede a turnaround in profitability, as the firm reported a net profit after taxation of 123.64 million rupees, a significant move from the 599.67 million rupees loss observed in the previous year.
A key highlight of the fiscal year was the gain from the disposal of Merit Packaging’s Gravure division, which contributed 505.66 million rupees to the company’s income. This strategic move provided a substantial uplift to the overall financial results, compensating for the reduced revenue from core operations.
Operating expenses were curtailed to 226.44 million rupees, a reduction from 321.57 million rupees in 2025, reflecting the company’s focus on tightening operational efficiencies. The operating loss narrowed to 166.86 million rupees from 350.31 million rupees, indicating a moderate move in the company's cost structure.
According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), Merit Packaging's profit before taxation surged to 241.59 million rupees, reversing from a loss of 533.37 million rupees during the prior period. This reflects a substantial improvement in the company's pre-tax profitability.
The balance sheet revealed total assets of 4.01 billion rupees, a 20% decrease from 2025, influenced by reductions in both property, plant, and equipment, and current assets. The company’s equity position improved, with share capital and reserves rising to 2.39 billion rupees, up from 2.27 billion rupees.
Liabilities were substantially reduced, with current liabilities decreasing by 47% to 1.24 billion rupees from 2.36 billion rupees in 2025, showcasing a significant improvement in the company’s short-term financial obligations.
Merit Packaging Limited's financial year 2026 results underscore a strategic pivot towards enhanced profitability through asset disposals and cost management, amidst a challenging sales environment.
