Karachi: Abdullah Shah Ghazi Sugar Mills Limited has reported another challenging financial year, with significant operational and financial hurdles leading to substantial losses. According to the company's Annual Report for 2025, released on January 7, 2026, the mill operated for only 23 days during the fiscal year ended September 30, 2025, a situation that has severely impacted its production capabilities and financial results.
For the fiscal year 2025, Abdullah Shah Ghazi Sugar Mills recorded net sales of 273.71 million rupees, while posting a gross loss of 248.54 million rupees, compared to a gross loss of 220.53 million rupees in 2024. The net loss after tax for the year escalated to 310.72 million rupees from 191.53 million rupees in the previous year, resulting in a loss per share of 3.92 rupees, up from 2.42 rupees. The company's gross loss as a percentage of sales was reported at 90.8%, while the net loss as a percentage of sales reached 113.5%.
The management attributes the increased losses primarily to operational inefficiencies and unavoidable fixed overheads. The constrained operations, coupled with fixed and variable operating costs, have adversely affected the overall profitability of the company. Despite these challenges, the company has continued efforts towards cost containment and asset preservation.
In light of these financial challenges, the Board of Directors has not recommended any dividend for the year ended September 30, 2025, due to accumulated losses. The Board remains cautiously optimistic about the future, focusing on the revival of operations, cost optimization, strategic alliances, and market expansion. Key initiatives include exploring funding options through financial institutions and investors, the adoption of technology-driven solutions to improve efficiency, and identifying new markets and product diversification opportunities post-revival.
The company operates in a challenging economic environment, with key risks including liquidity constraints, volatility in sugar prices, and operational uncertainties. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), these factors have been closely monitored by the management, which remains committed to strengthening internal controls and financial discipline.
The Board has outlined a strategic direction aimed at the long-term sustainability of the mill. This includes exploring strategic partnerships and alliances to revive operations, optimizing and potentially monetizing idle and underutilized assets, and developing a comprehensive turnaround and restructuring plan.
The company has also announced that the 42nd Annual General Meeting will be held on January 27, 2026, at Diamond Banquet, Karachi, with an option for shareholders to participate via video link for safety and convenience.
Despite the challenging outlook, the Board is determined to steer the company towards recovery, emphasizing the importance of strategic direction, policy formulation, and ensuring the integrity of corporate and financial reporting. The Board remains committed to promoting sustainable growth and operational discipline while upholding the principles of sound corporate governance.
